PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Aluminum 1100 is a soft, non-heat-treatable and low strength alloy that offers strong corrosion resistance. Composed of 99% aluminum and 0.12% copper, Aluminum 1100 is purest grade of aluminum alloy available commercially.
A highly sought after alloy, Aluminum 1100 offers excellent machinability as well as maintaining strength in low temperatures and electrical conductivity. It has excellent welding characteristics; it is also soft and ductile so is ideal for applications that require intricate forming as it work hardens slower than other alloys.
1100 is however non-heat treatable. As 1100 has excellent resistance to corrosion it is widely used in the chemical and food processing industries also for giftware and applications where eye appeal is important.
Aluminum 1100 is a commercially pure aluminum.
Advantages:
1. Excellent corrosion resistance. 1100 aluminum sheet has good resistance to atmospheric (including industrial atmospheric and Marine vapor) corrosion and water corrosion. In addition, it can resist the corrosion of most acids and organics.
2. Good ductility and molding.1100 aluminum sheets can produce various aluminum materials through pressure processing, which can adapt to the larger speed of most machine tools for turning, milling, boring, planning, and other mechanical processing. Moreover, the good molding of1100 aluminum sheet enables it to be rolled into sheets and foil, or pulled into pipes and wires, etc.
3.No low-temperature brittleness.1100 aluminum sheetbelow0℃, as the temperature decreases, its strength and molding will not reduce but increase.
4. 1100 aluminum sheet strength is low, it cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, and the cutting property is poor.
It is typical duralumin in the al-cop-magnesium system with reasonable composition and good comprehensive properties.
5. With high strength and heat resistance, it can be used as working parts below 150°C.
6. The formability is better in the hot state, annealing state, and new quenching state, and the effect of heat treatment is remarkable, but the heat treatment process is strict.
7. Poor corrosion resistance, but with pure aluminum coating can be effectively protected; It is easy to crack when welding, but it can be welded or riveted with special technology.
